Lucia Anguissola was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period, born in Cremona in 1540. She was the eldest of six sisters, all of whom were also painters. Lucia was trained by her father and later received further training from the well-known painter Bernardino Campi. Her paintings were highly valued for their skillful use of color and her ability to capture emotion in her subjects. She lived most of her life in Cremona and established a successful career as a portrait painter. Lucia was also a poet and wrote sonnets and verses which were published in local anthologies. She died in 1565, at the young age of 25, leaving behind a legacy as one of the foremost female painters of her time.
